Melbourne United is pleased to announce that experienced power-forward David Barlow has re-signed for his sixth season with the Club.
The three-time NBL Champion brings a wealth of experience after nearly fifteen years playing locally and abroad.
David Barlow, a Victorian local from South-East Melbourne, said he was delighted to be back again to play in his home town.
“I love this city and I love this team, so to have the opportunity to try and accomplish what we have been aiming for during the last couple of years is brilliant.
“For me, the thing about being in Melbourne is the day-to-day life. I love getting up and going to work every day, I love going to training and I love hanging out with my friends, family and my team mates.
“The games are a bonus that I love too, but for me, the day-to-day of being here is even more special” said Barlow.
As far as mental endurance goes, Barlow is a leader of the team.
Many thought he wouldn’t return from an achilles injury which sidelined him for the entire 2015-16 season, yet Barlow worked tirelessly for 12 months and gained the strength to take the floor again in 2016-17.
“Those things, what can you do about it? That’s sports”, Barlow shared on the season ending injury.
“I think I have been quite unfortunate, especially recently, but all you can do is keep trying your best to keep your body in shape and do everything you possibly can, which is what I’m always trying to do.
“Right now, I’m feeling really good, touch wood. You just have to stay on the ball and keep taking each day as it comes, and just enjoy it while it’s still there.”
The two-time Olympian has spent the past few months playing in Spain with Obradoiro CAB in the ACB League to keep his game fitness up during the off-season.
“I always feel confident about our team no matter what, but we definitely have a really good group of guys returning from last year.
“I think last year we had a lot of the right ingredients but we had a rough start, which was difficult to come back from. We also had some unfortunate injuries throughout the year. Regardless, I’m feeling positive about the season coming up.
“I think everything is right there for us to do what we want to do, and I’m really looking forward to the challenge” Barlow said.
Barlow joins contracted players David Andersen, Tai Wesley, Chris Goulding, Majok Majok, Craig Moller, Josh Boone and Kyle Adnam for the 2017-18 season. More announcements are expected in the coming weeks.
