Cameron will head across the ditch to further his development in the offseason

Melbourne United guard Flynn Cameron is set to suit up in the NZNBL following the NBL24 season for the Taranaki Airs.

Cameron has thrived for MU thus far in his rookie season, averaging 4.6 points and 3.1 rebounds, while registering one of the best per game plus/minus numbers in the entire league.

Having recently showcased how impactful he can be in a larger role with United, Cameron, who signed a three-year contract with Melbourne in the offseason, is excited for the opportunity to build on his game.

“I just wanted to go somewhere where I’d have the opportunity to play a lot and get better,” he said.

“It’s a place with a great basketball community and passionate fan base which is always exciting, but more than anything they’re going to allow me to develop and grow my game while working on the things I know will allow me to succeed here in the NBL.”

Head Coach Dean Vickerman believes Cameron’s decision will be one that will help him best prepare to play an even larger role come NBL25.

I think for all of our guys that are playing in the offseason, it’s about making sure they’re playing against high-level competition and playing a role that we can see them advancing into with United in the future,” Vickerman explained.

“Flynn signing with Taranaki, it’s great because he’ll be playing in one of the fastest leagues in the world. He’s going to get a lot of opportunities to make quicker decisions and play a large role in what they do on offence and defence.”

Fans will get their next opportunity to see Cameron hit the floor in MU colours this Sunday during the club’s Member Appreciation Game.

Taking place as United face off against the Cairns Taipans at John Cain Arena from 4pm, the contest will be a celebration of all the amazing support United’s members provide the club each and every week.

If you want to become a member, part-season packages remain available.

You can also get access to three Melbourne United home games in December (3 Dec, 10 Dec, 16 Dec) for a fraction of the price of single game tickets. A Blue Friday 3 Game Pass starts from just $40.00 per person.
