Melbourne United will showcase the importance of inclusion during The Pride Game in Round 18

Ahead of Melbourne United’s next game, a Throwdown XXIV clash with the South East Melbourne Phoenix, the club is proud to announce its partnership with Pride In Sport.

Pride In Sport is a national non-for-profit program assisting sporting organisations with their goal of making Australian sport as inclusive as possible for LGBTQ communities.

This aligns perfectly with one of Melbourne United’s key values, which is to be inclusive.

United CEO Nick Truleson touched on the significance of the partnership as the club strives to create the most inclusive environment in Australian sport.

“At Melbourne United, our purpose is to use the power of basketball to entertain, inspire and enrich people’s lives, and we hope working directly with Pride In Sport will help us achieve that purpose,” he continued.

“We saw first hand through Isaac Humphries’ journey with us last season the impact you can have on people’s lives simply by being an inclusive organisation.

“Through initiatives like Pride In Sport, and the NBL’s Champion Pride Round, we hope that we can continue to foster this welcoming environment.”

These sentiments were echoed in a statement by National Program Manager of Pride in Sport Australia, Beau Newell.

“By joining Pride in Sport and working with ACON, Melbourne United is showing the community that they care about the health and wellbeing of their athletes, and members across Victoria,” Newell said.

“Congratulations to Melbourne United for leading the way in changing Australia’s sporting culture, to be more inclusive.”

Melbourne United will showcase this commitment on the weekend during the club’s Pride Game on Saturday evening.
