Pushing for perfection: Clark eying season start

It’s only been a week since Ian Clark touched down back in Australia for his second season with Melbourne United, however the sharpshooting American has quickly slotted back into his comfort zone.

Working alongside new and old teammates, Clark says the same strive for perfection continues to propel this United group, who will hit the court for their first pre-season game on Tuesday evening against the Brisbane Bullets at Casey Basketball Stadium from 6:30pm.

Speaking ahead of the clash, NBL24’s Best Sixth Man winner touched on how the continuity within the group, paired with their drive to win, has made the pre-season an exciting one.

“Being with this group, it pushes you to be the best version of yourself,” he explained.

“Guys like CG (Chris Goulding), Jack (White), Delly (Matthew Dellavedova), Shili (Shea Ili); they’re doing everything they can to get better and prepare to perform at the highest level.

“We’re building day-by-day, practice-by-practice, and it’s easy because everyone knows what the expectations are. We don’t have to spend a lot of time teaching guys what we do. Everyone in this building knows how to play United basketball so it’s just a matter of slotting in wherever you fit throughout different lineups.

“The chemistry we have is one of the biggest things we have going for us. We have so many guys coming in who have experience playing together and know how to make each other better.

“There’s that, and there’s the fact that we have so many versatile guys who can attack all over the court. It just makes things easier for everyone because everyone has complementary skills.”
