Our goal at the Melbourne United Basketball Academy (MUBA) is to help young athletes achieve their best and improve every day.
That has been the case for 13-year-old Cooper Ross, who through his time with the MUBA Development Academy, says he has improved every aspect of his game.
“I’ve learnt a lot... I feel like everything has improved since I joined,” he said.
“Ball handling, shooting, driving, spacing, decision making, I’ve been able to improve a lot by playing in all the game scenarios they do.
“It’s really helped me develop my basketball by doing the little things on offence like spacing the floor, being patient and taking my time, not being rushed.
“When I started with the Academy, I didn’t really know a lot about the structure of basketball. I just kind of ran up and down trying to get the ball. Now I have a way better understanding on how to play in a way that helps me and my teammates score.”
As part of the Development Academy, Cooper’s training program, designed by the Melbourne United coaching staff, is focussed on helping him progress further on his basketball journey.
Being able to do this in a positive and supporting environment is something that has made his MUBA journey even better.
“The feedback we get is super helpful. The coaches are helping us look at what we need to improve on and what is the best way we can do it.
“Everyone is friendly which makes it a good environment to learn in. Everyone is there to help each other get better.”
If you’re interested in joining the MUBA, our Talent ID Camps are your first steps.
These camps provide the perfect opportunity for coaches to assess young athletes and identify where they best fit within the Academy structure - whether that’s the Development Program, Performance Program, or the Elite Program.
