Over its first term, Melbourne United’s new STAND TALL wellbeing program has reached over 1,200 students across Victoria.
Part of The United Foundation, the program supports children to build positive relationships and be the best they can possibly be through classroom-based activities and on-court practical experiences that give structure and meaning to Melbourne United’s values of excellence, selfless, inclusive and community.
Having run throughout 32 classrooms, teachers have raved about the program, praising its ability to engage with students and champion Melbourne United’s values on and off the court.
“The STAND TALL program has really fostered and supported our own school values,” teacher Nicole told MU Media.
“Having someone external to the school come in and encourage the students to be selfless and inclusive, and then giving them the opportunity to practice these values together on the basketball court has been fantastic.
“Delivering the program over four-weeks has been perfect. It has helped to ingrain each of the values into the student’s language and behaviour and they have really connected with the facilitators. The videos of the players have really helped the students to understand the meaning of teamwork and how to be inclusive.”
STAND TALL is delivered by trained facilitators and aligns with current Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) programs delivered in schools. It also aligns with the Australian Curriculum and Victorian Rights, Resilience and Respectful Relationships curriculum.
Having already successfully delivered the program wellbeing across Melbourne, United is excited at the prospect of expanding the reach of STAND TALL and reaching as many classrooms across the state as possible.
