Melbourne United have crushed the Phoenix in the fourth quarter on Thursday evening

Melbourne United have outlasted the South East Melbourne Phoenix in Throwdown 29 in front of a sold out John Cain Arena.

Melbourne started the game well, with Finn Delany and Milton Doyle combining for a trio of three pointers for our first three buckets.

Tyson Walker then stole the ball in the backcourt for a layup, something he is becoming known for to start his NBL career.

Also getting in on the defensive action was Next Star Dash Daniels, who collected a pair of steals, however turnovers at the other end hindered United.

Doyle, Walker and Tanner Krebs all connected from deep to push Melbourne back in front before Jesse Edwards put an exclamation mark on the end of the period, slamming home a poster dunk through contact, giving the home side a 29-24 advantage.

While the game remained tight across the second period, Walker and Dash shined for United.

The pair put pressure on the rim and probed inside, allowing Melbourne to go ahead by as many as 10 points.

A Tom Wilson triple kept the momentum up before late turnovers hurt United again, allowing the Phoenix to cut the deficit to 52-46 at the major break.

Coming out of half time, South East Melbourne turned up the heat, playing physically and propelling themselves back into the lead.

Looking to stop this, Fabijan Krslovic stepped up, protecting the hoop, grabbing boards and cashing a huge three-pointer late in the term to get the sold out crowd on their feet.

This plus two free-throws from Shea Ili, broke the deadlock and put Melbourne ahead 75-70 with 10 minutes remaining.

Looking to keep this run going, United came out with an elite level of execution and energy.

Doyle started the period with a triple before getting out on the break following a Krslovic block and throwing down an emphatic dunk to send the 10,175 fans in the stand into a frenzy.

Ultimately, Melbourne would start the term on a 13-0 run, pulling ahead by 18 points, all before Daniels produced another highlight, dropping his defender with an ankle-breaking crossover and draining a triple.

Across the fourth, Melbourne outscored the Phoenix 28-13, ending Throwdown 29 with a 103-83 victory.

Melbourne United have extended their overall Throwdown advantage in the series to 20-9.
