With so much focus on what Melbourne United’s playing group is doing in the off-season, the club’s coaching staff has also been hard at work honing their craft ahead of NBL25.
Assistant coaches Rhys Carter and David Barlow are sharing coaching responsibilities with the Sandringham Sabres, while Jacob Chance has been hard at work preparing for the Australian Boomers Olympic Campaign.

Head Coach Dean Vickerman, who himself will have a role with the Boomers leading up to Paris before heading to NBA Summer League, says it’s important for he and his staff to continue working to look at different ways they can improve their process.
“I thought we were really thorough with our review of the season, looking at the different areas that we need to be better,” he said.
“We really challenge ourselves as a coaching staff about how we improve every aspect of our day to day; our vitamins (daily skills) program, our practices, our mental preparation, so finding the right people to assist us in those areas is important.
“Our staff have really great opportunities to learn and grow. Rhys and Barlow as part of the Sandringham system, Chancey on international duties, my own opportunity to play a small part in the Boomers program and then to go to Summer League.
“Hopefully when we get back together we can share all the things we’ve learnt and implement that into a successful season.”
