Across the entire NBL24 season, no fanbase has shown as much love to its team than the Melbourne United faithful, who have consistently packed out John Cain Arena for each and every home game.
A major part of this support has come from United’s 5,856 members, who have accounted for record membership figures in the history of the club.
Despite being away from home for close to a month during the Australian Open, excitement and passion shown by United’s supporters has never waivered, with all three of Melbourne’s remaining home games close to sold out.
Across their 11 home games so far, MU have averaged an attendance of 9,602; 94% of the capacity at John Cain Arena.
Having fed off the energy of the fans across his career with United, Chris Goulding touched on what the club's members mean to the playing group.
“They’re the reason we play,” he said.
“You want to play and you want to win to deliver success to your fans, to the people that love this club as much as you do.
“I can’t count the amount of times this season where the energy from the crowd has helped us pull off big plays in big moments.”
These sentiments were echoed by club CEO Nick Truelson, who lauded the continued growth of the club’s fanbase.
“Since joining the club three seasons ago, I have been blown away by the passion and dedication shown by the amazing people that make up our members,” he explained.
“They have been the ones that stuck with us in every game, and that drive us to strive for excellence at every level.
“We’ve seen record attendance at our games across NBL24, and that’s fueled by our amazing members and their commitment to this organisation. It shows the clear direction Melbourne United and the NBL at large is headed.
“To see record membership this season fills me and everyone at the club with excitement for the future, as we know that our United fanbase is only going to continue to grow and allow us to provide the best match day experience in Australian sport for all Victorians”
Melbourne United will next hit the court on Friday evening against the Tasmania JackJumpers from 7:30pm at MyState Bank Arena.
They will then play two more games before returning to John Cain Arena in February for three of their final four games.
