Melbourne United’s game today (Saturday 22nd January 2022) will carry some extra meaning for the franchise, as it's all-time leader in games played hits a major milestone.
David Barlow will play his 350th NBL game against the Adelaide 36ers, with 190 of those contests coming in a United uniform.
Currently in his 19th season as a professional player (13th in NBL) since making his debut for the Sydney Kings in Perth in October 2003, Barlow is the oldest player currently playing in the league at 38 years old.
The five-time NBL champion has had an illustrious career, including holding the record for the greatest perfect shooting game in league history, shooting 14-from-14 (8-from-8 threes) in a career best 37-point total against the NZ Breakers in October 2007.
When it comes to United records, Barlow has knocked down more three pointers (285) than anyone in team history not named Chris Goulding, and has done so with elite efficiency (43.4%).
That shooting percentage ranks higher than the likes of Andrew Gaze, Shane Heal, and even CG43.
A consummate professional, it cannot be understated the confidence and reliability Barlow instils in his teammates.
Goulding, who has played alongside Barlow since 2015, praised the Forward going into the contest.
“A massive congratulations to DB on game 350.
“The ultimate professional and teammate, I’m proud to have played so many games alongside him and shared some great moments.
“It’s been very cool to have seen him become the player and leader that he is. He’s a legend of our club with many more games in him.”
Be sure to watch Barlow hit his milestone when United face the 36ers on ESPN, via Foxtel and Kayo Sports.
Tickets are also on sale to see the ageless wonder in person for Melbourne’s next two home games here.
