After coming away from Round 10 with a 1-1 record, United is ready to bounce back in what is looking like one of its biggest games of the season.
Melbourne will face the South East Melbourne Phoenix in Throwdown XX, delivered by DoorDash on Thursday evening. A win will see United tie the season series at 2-2, and extend United’s all-time record against their rivals to 13-7.
While Monday’s loss was a tough pill to swallow, veteran forward David Barlow said he and his teammates will move forward quickly, with their eyes firmly locked on the Phoenix.
“We are going to mourn this loss but life goes on,” he said.
“We've got to toughen up, we’ve got a game in a couple of days, we’ve got to keep striving for success and that’s what we’re going to do.”
This was echoed by Head Coach Dean Vickerman, who said while the loss was disappointing, he was pleased with the way his side executed for much of the game.
“There’s a lot of things we can get better at and that’s about completing every possession and staying locked in for longer periods of time,” he continued.
“I think the 21 points off turnovers was huge but for the most part, we played basketball the right way. We moved it and shared it and played with really good intent… it’s extremely disappointing for our group, we feel like we did enough to win that one.”
United will next face the SEM Phoenix in Throwdown XX, delivered by DoorDash on Thursday from 7:30pm at John Cain Arena.
