Melbourne United big-man Isaac Humphries has continued his return to the form that had him in MVP conversations just a few short seasons ago, praising coach Dean Vickerman for helping him get there.
Adjusting to a new team and new city, ‘Ice’ seems to have found his feet with United across Rounds 5 and 6, helping United to a 3-1 record while putting up impressive individual numbers.
The near seven-footer averaged 16.8 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game across Melbourne’s past four games, while connecting on over 66% of his attempts from the field.
Speaking on RSN 927 this morning, Humphries said part of this success has to be attributed to Vickerman, who has consistently challenged him and his teammates over the course of the season.

“I really enjoy being coached by Dean,” he explained.
“He really challenges us and tries to make us reach our best potential. Even on the weekend I wasn’t doing an amazing job of defending down in the post in the first quarter and he really challenged me to step up and be better, and I like that pressure.
“As athletes we want that coach who looks you in the eye and says “you're not getting it done now, you need to be better.”
Heading into the FIBA window break sitting sixth on the NBL table at 5-5, United will be hoping Humphries and his teammates will continue their recent momentum by stringing together more solid victories.
Fans will get their next chance to see Melbourne take to the court on Thursday 17 November when they host the Adelaide 36ers at John Cain Arena.
