Melbourne United is excited to announce the appointment of Nick Truelson as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Club Chairman, Simon Hupfeld, said that Truelson is a dynamic and innovative leader, and brings a wealth of experience across national commercial roles, both in and out of professional sport, that made him an ideal candidate for the role.

“After winning our second Championship as Melbourne United this year, the club has quickly turned its attention to building on our momentum to accelerate the development and expansion of our organisation,” Hupfeld said.

“Our aspiration is to become the most respected sporting organisation in our region, and we are thrilled to have Nick Truelson at the helm to steer us towards this goal.”

“Our past CEO, Vince Crivelli, has worked tirelessly over the last 7 years to leave our club in an enviable position with an extraordinarily talented, hard-working and committed team both on and off the court.  All our supporters should feel very optimistic about our future.”

Truelson spent almost 10 years at leading FMCG company Cadbury Schweppes which included numerous national sales and trade marketing roles, before moving into the sporting landscape as Fan Development Manager at the Essendon Football Club. Most recently, Truelson has spent over 10 years at the Western Bulldogs as the Chief Commercial Officer.

Truelson spoke of his excitement at the opportunity of taking on the new role at Melbourne United.

“I am thrilled to become the new CEO of Melbourne United,” Truelson said.

“The club and the NBL are embarking on an exciting growth platform and the recent championship win is a testament to all involved. I am looking forward to working closely with the board, staff, coaches, and players on continuing to build the brand of Melbourne United into one of Australia’s most exciting fan centric sporting properties.”

“The NBL has grown phenomenally over the last 5 years and Basketball is currently the second most participated sport in Australia. Together, we can work on creating development pathways in our community and providing everyone at the club with opportunities in making Melbourne United a destination club on and off the court.”

“I am committed to ensuring every area of the club has the support and opportunity to thrive from the fans to our community and our people.”

Truelson will replace outgoing CEO Vince Crivelli, who has been part of the organisation since 2013. Crivelli was recently recognised for his efforts at the club by the Board of Directors, who renamed the club’s Club Person of the Season award in his honour.

Truelson will start his tenure at the club at the beginning of August and will be available to speak to media from that point onward.
