NBA dreams not clouding ‘task at hand’ says Travers

Written by Melbourne United Media
After making the move to Melbourne United in a league-altering signing, Luke Travers only has eyes on one thing heading into NBL24: winning a Championship.
Despite being drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2022 NBA Draft, Travers says while his ultimate goal is to make the transition to the NBA, he isn’t letting that cloud his priorities ahead of next season.

Speaking on ABC Radio, Travers added his confidence that Head Coach Dean Vickerman will put him in the best position to succeed on the court.
“Obviously being from Australia, there’s not too many of us that do it (make it to the NBA),” he said.
“There have been a lot more recently and I’m looking to be another one added to that list and I think there’s no better spot to do it than at Melbourne United and under Dean Vickerman’s system so I’m definitely looking forward to it.
“The task at hand now is to win a Championship with Melbourne United and I’ll look to do that this year, try and do my best to help the team get there.
“After that I’ll just sort of play it by ear. If it’s back in the NBL for another year after that, it is what it is and I’ll just keep pushing away and try to do my best to help teams win.”
Travers, 21, put together perhaps his best stretch of basketball to close the NBL23 season, averaging 10.5 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game while shooting 50% from beyond the arc across his final 16 games.
