Jack White is proving to be Melbourne United’s ultimate good luck charm.
The athletic forward seems to do nothing but win when he steps onto the court, now boasting a 17-1 record with the club.
Despite this, he has heaped praise on his teammates for United’s current eight-game winning streak.
Speaking to media after Melbourne’s two-point victory over the Brisbane Bullets on the road, White voiced his adoration for Matthew Dellavedova, and his ability to lead the defending champs.
“It’s unbelievable,” he said.
“The head he has for the game is incredible. He’s just so good at settling us at tough times. He’s like a coach on the floor, he’s a really great extension of Deano especially down the stretch when things are getting heated, he’s just able to keep us poised and under control at big moments.”
“He’s a guy you know you can depend on and he’s going to have your back.”
That trust extended to the rest of his teammates, who he says are always ready for whatever comes their way.
“I’m confident in saying that our group can adapt really well with whatever situation is thrown at us.
“Our biggest strength is our depth. Every game everyone steps up… everyone understands just how valuable they are for us to be successful.”
Amongst this celebration of his teammates, White’s role in the victory cannot be understated.
Tasked with guarding multiple dangerous scorers in Lamar Patterson and Robert Franks, White put together perhaps his best game of the season, finishing with 14 points, eight of which came in the fourth quarter, and a clutch block in the final seconds.
Head Coach Dean Vickerman spoke about the advantages Jack brings when he’s on the court.
“His continual pace, his attack on the offensive glass, his ability to attack off the dribble when he has a mismatch, he just offers us so many advantages.
“I didn’t take him out in the fourth quarter tonight, we tested his wind and he came out pretty well.”
Dean did however have one note for White, perhaps to keep his head from getting too big.
“He’s well behind (where he should be), he missed three free-throws tonight,” Vickerman said as he gave White a playful smack on the arm.
Melbourne will play its final road game of this seven-game stretch away from home on Sunday against the Adelaide 36ers.
Following this, United fans will get their first chance to see their side live in 2022 when they return to John Cain Arena for a matchup with the Tasmania JackJumpers at 3pm on Sunday, February 6.
This game will also feature a spectacular performance from Tones And I live at half-time.
Tickets are available here, and five game memberships, which give you tickets to any five United home games for the price of four, are available here.
