A letter from Dean Vickerman

To my Melbourne United family,

Firstly, I want to say thank you. 

Thank you for allowing me to live my dream of coaching at the highest level in my home state of Victoria, and supporting me across the past nine seasons.

It has been an amazing experience to lead this organisation as its Head Coach, and my family and I will cherish the memories we created here with United forever.

When I arrived, I set out to build a consistent, winning culture, and establish a set of values that all people associated with the club could be proud of, and I think as I depart, that goal has been successful.

From coming in and winning the club’s first Championship under the United banner, traveling to America to face NBA competition, winning another title following the pandemic, and seeing a number of our players develop and progress into NBA players, I have loved every second of this journey.

To the players, the grind of working towards our shared goal of bringing this club as much as possible has always been an honour. Whether it was the late nights, the road trips, our soccer games, all the little things made being your coach as special as it has been.

To the fans, seeing you embrace myself, our players and our staff continued to help drive us towards wins. I’ve always said there’s nothing quite like the sound inside John Cain Arena when we’re on a run or the game is on the line. 

To every member of my coaching and high performance staff over the years, your work behind the scenes has been an enormous part of every bit of success we’ve enjoyed.

As I move onto this next step in my career, I am excited to see the club begin another chapter, one I’m sure will be filled with more unforgettable moments.

Regardless where I am coaching, Melbourne United will always be my home.
