‘Best fans in the league’ celebrated after another sell out game

Fewer things in sport are stronger than a great home ground advantage.

It’s something Melbourne United have enjoyed for a long time, however thus far in NBL24, the support at John Cain Arena has been on another level.

Monday night saw United play in front of another sold-out crowd, their third in six games, bringing this season’s average game attendance up to 9750; in other words, 96% capacity.

The energy produced by United’s fans on Monday was proof why MU has the best support in the league according to Head Coach Dean Vickerman.

“Did it (the crowd energy) have an impact on (Jordan) Usher missing his free-throws? I’m sure he heard it, I’m sure he felt it and that’s what a home crowd should do,” he explained.

“They’re giving you energy when you need it, they’re celebrating the success you’re having on the floor and they’re making it very difficult for the opposition, I thought they were fantastic.”

These sentiments were echoed by star big-man Jo Lual-Acuil Jr, who fed off the crowd noise during his 25 point, 10 rebound performance.

“We definitely have the best fans in the league,” Lual-Acuil Jr said.

“We have near sell-outs every home game and that’s special. They definitely make an impact, we appreciate the fans.”

United’s fans will have their next opportunity to cheer on their side on 19 November when they host the Sydney Kings.

Tickets are already selling fast for the much anticipated matchup, so get in quick to secure your seat, or become a member to lock in your spot with a part-season package.
