Brown emparting NBA wisdom on United guards

Boasting four NBA titles, an NBL title and a long stint at the helm of the Australian Boomers, Brett Brown is one of the most respected figures in Australian basketball.

The Maine native, who is currently working with the San Antonio Spurs as an assistant, recently came through Melbourne United’s home of Hoop City Cheltenham to reconnect with long-time friend Dean Vickerman and work with MU guards Shea Ili and Flynn Cameron.

Speaking to MU Media, Brown said he was excited to be back in Melbourne to pass on his knowledge as a coach to United’s stars.

“The history I have had with Australia and Melbourne especially, and Dean Vickerman back in the late 80s, is real and has been a big part of my basketball evolution,” he said.

“To then come in and see these two young players and work them out and be able to share things that I’ve learnt since I left (Australia) and really try and apply it to the NBA guards that teach you as much as you teach them, you hope they get something out of it.

“It’s been a treat coming in here and I’m always happy to help Dean and excited to come back to Melbourne.”

Both Ili and Cameron were recently named as part of the New Zealand Tall Blacks extended FIBA World Cup Squad.
