Cameron, United eyeing bounce-back opportunity against Bullets

After going down to the Taipans in Round 9, Melbourne United’s sole focus is bouncing back in a big way at home when the Brisbane Bullets come into town on Sunday.

Speaking on The Extra Pass podcast, young guard Flynn Cameron said his side’s effort didn’t meet their standards as a playing group.

Looking ahead to the matchup with the Bullets, Cameron is ready to come out firing and put Melbourne back on the winners list.

“We obviously looked at the film and we’ve just got to take those learnings with us and apply our standard (to the next game),” he said.

“That was probably the biggest thing coming out of the break, we just weren’t up to our standards.

“They (Brisbane) are hot right now, they’ve won two in a row, so it’s a good game for us to bounce back.

“Obviously knowing they’ve got (Justin) Schueller, a previous coach here, he’ll get them fired up as well. I just can’t wait for the game… we’ve got a bitter taste (in our mouths) from Sunday’s loss. We’ll be ready.”

Having been in this situation before, United’s captain, Chris Goulding, has been preaching the importance of staying ready and expecting the opposition’s best every time they take the court.

“It’s a wake-up call. CG (Chris Goulding) has been saying it every day and after every game, teams are trying to come into our house and beat us… they’re always going to be hungry, they’re always going to want it. 

“We’re at the top of the ladder so we’ve got a big target on our heads, and he’s just trying to get us mentally ready by saying ‘A challenge is coming, you’ve got to be ready for it.”

Sunday afternoon’s game against Brisbane will mark Goulding’s 250th appearance in a United uniform.
