While we have struggled to secure wins in recent weeks, a level of confidence remains within the group that plenty of positive results are still to come.
Speaking on SEN Sportsday, Assistant Coach Rhys Carter broke down what the coaching staff is looking at behind the scenes heading into a big HoopsFest game against the Tasmania JackJumpers on Saturday 17 January from 9:30pm.
“If we stick with it, we think we can get out of it,” he said.
“We got a bit of a stat the other day and as much as we have a lot to work on and it’s not just going to happen for us… We’re actually living in a pretty good place in terms of our process and our shot profile in open versus contested and bad versus good shots. They’re actually pretty good shots but they’re not going in.
“Teams are giving us their best shot, everyone we see is kind of shooting a better three-point percentage than they have the rest of the season.
“Some of that is we need to be better at guarding it and some is guys are just having a day out against us and making tough contested ones. The mix (of that) is what’s killed us.
“So we’ve got a lot to work on but we know what it is, and we’ve on track. We've fixed a few things in the last couple of weeks… overall (we’ve got) good people that want to fix it for the team with good attitudes.”
Five of our past six losses have come by less than 10 points, with two of those coming in overtime, and two coming by a single basket.
Looking forward, Carter believes we can recapture the strong form that saw us win our first nine games of the Hungry Jack’s NBL26 campaign.
“We know if we can get back to that consistency of who we are defensively; tough, physical, getting after teams, and offence with a few little minor changes and we’ll be good.
“I think overall, we have a group that knows we can do it and knows it’s going to come, we just need to make these adjustments and make it happen.”
Our next game will come against the JackJumpers on Saturday evening from 9:30pm and will be streamed via ESPN.
Following that, we’re set to return to Bendigo for an Ignite Cup game against the Brisbane Bullets on Wednesday 21 January from 5:30pm.
