Chris Goulding praises ‘energetic’ JCA crowd ahead of final home game of 2021

Melbourne United Captain Chris Goulding is hoping for a full house for his side’s final home game of the year, following their demolition of the Sydney Kings on Thursday night.

United put together a historic performance, breaking the NBL record for largest first quarter points differential (34-5), largest half-time lead since the NBL moved to 10 minute quarters (55-21), and holding the Kings to their lowest ever score (47 points).

CG43 credited Melbourne’s hot start to confidence on both ends of the court.

“It was great. We came out with the right intent,” he told Melbourne United media immediately after the game.

“I thought we had a confidence about us offensively that when we do the right things defensively, it’s going to create opportunities, and guys stepped up and were knocking down shots and we got off to a great start.”

That “great start”, a 26-0 run to open the game, saw the John Cain Arena crowd remain on their feet for nearly eight minutes of action during the Harcourts Holler, cheering loudly and boosting United each time down the court.

Goulding said moments like those are why Melbourne’s fans are the best in the league, and why his side loves playing at JCA.

“We love this place, we love playing in front of the fans… they’re loud, they’re energetic, it’s why we love playing here.”

Fans will have their last chance to cheer on Melbourne United in 2021 on Sunday at 1pm against the New Zealand Breakers.
