D’Angelo joins United as Development Player for NBL27

Melbourne United is excited to announce that Christian D’Angelo will join the club’s NBL27 lineup as a Development Player.

The 22-year-old guard has improved season-on-season playing in the NBL1 South with the Nunawading Spectres, taking home the conference's Youth Player of the Year award in 2025.

D’Angelo spent NBL26 as a Training Player with Melbourne United, helping to keep our roster sharp throughout the season and growing his own game.

Looking ahead, D’Angelo touched on what it means to join United’s lineup.

“This is something that I've worked towards for a really long time and to finally reach a big goal of mine is really exciting,” D’Angelo said.

“Obviously having a year as a Training Player, I got a taste of what it's like and I kind of got addicted to it.

“Working with the guys every day and seeing how they’re always looking to improve was huge for me. I think I have a lot more confidence in my game now and I’m only wanting to get better to help this team win.”

Standing 191cm tall, the guard is proving to be one the NBL1 South’s most dangerous scorers this season, averaging 20.5 points per game across the first three Rounds.

Head Coach Dean Vickerman believes D’Angelo has the capability to make an impact whenever he takes to the court.

“He really earned his position as a Training Player last year and now he’s earned this opportunity as a Development Player,” Vickerman explained.

“He's a gifted scorer and a really balanced athlete. We had him play as a two-guard, some combo guard, and ran a little bit of point last year in our practice. Players like him are just a real valuable commodity right now with the ability to stretch the floor, play in transition and be a willing defender, while still growing as a player.

“He's someone that can really challenge for a roster spot in years to come.”

D’Angelo becomes our first Development Player signed for the NBL27 season here.
