DrinkWise Preview: NBL23 - Round 13 v Brisbane Bullets

Written by Melbourne United Media

Melbourne United will look to get back to their winning ways when they head on the road to face the Brisbane Bullets on New Year’s Day.

United took home a comfortable 104-88 victory when the two side’s first met in Round 10, which kickstarted their recent run of hot form.

Melbourne have been comfortable playing in Brisbane, having won their past three games at Nissan Arena dating back to the start of 2021.

For the Bullets, this game will close to a brutal stretch of games which will see the side play three games in six nights.

PLAYER TO WATCH

After missing United’s last game with the flu, Chris Goulding is ready to get back on the court against the Bullets.

The sharpshooter has hit his stride of late, averaging 20 points and 4.4 three pointers per game over his last five outings.

Goulding has also showcased his affinity for the Nissan Arena, having cashed in on 18 three-pointers across his four games there.

KEY MATCHUP

While the majority of attention will go towards the Bullets’ stars like Aron Baynes and Nathan Sobey, slowing down Tanner Krebs, who has returned from an ankle injury, will be key for United on Sunday.

Since stepping back on the court, Krebs has been dangerous, averaging 14 points and six rebounds per game, while registering a +22 plus/minus in his two outings.

With length and athleticism, it will take a combined effort from United’s defence to halt the Aussie forward.

Look for Melbourne to throw different looks at the talented youngster, including matching him up with the likes of Rayjon Tucker and Mason Peatling.

THE OTHER GUYS

When firing, the Bullets have showcased a high-octane offence that is hard to limit.

The aforementioned Sobey and Baynes are able to break the game open with their sheer physicality, while Jason Cadee and Andrew White stretch the floor with elite shooting.

A major wildcard for Brisbane is Tyler Johnson, with the former NBA guard able to go off quickly with his shifty play.
