With the beginning of the NBL’s Free Agency period set for Thursday morning, Melbourne United coach Dean Vickerman has told fans to expect the organisation to be “fairly active” as he looks to construct a Championship level team for NBL24.
Speaking to MU Media, Vickerman said he and his staff are looking at a collection of strong talent from within the league, but also from the American college system.

“I think we’ll be fairly active in this Free Agency period, certainly with players from our league and players from the college system as well,” Vickerman said.
“We learnt so many things last year… so much about making sure our processes are right when we bring people in.
“I think as we build this roster, and we’ve engaged a lot of people in the process… we will continue to have challenging conversations to get the best roster possible.”
While United fell short of their ultimate goal of winning another NBL title last season, Vickerman said the signs he saw over the final 13 games from his group were very positive.
“Obviously we’re disappointed we didn’t make the playoffs,” he continued.
“Over the second-half of the year when we got our pieces together, we were really pleased to be one of the best second-half teams (10-3 record over the final eight rounds, best winning percentage in the league).”
