Family fun to on-court excellence: Knipe ready to get to work at United

Many parents will attest to the notion that nothing brings you more joy than engaging with things that your children are passionate about.

This is something Melbourne United majority owner Travis Knipe can certainly relate to.

While he grew up attacking the net on the tennis court, basketball became a focus once his two sons, Zack and Jake, fell in love with the game.

“Growing up I loved tennis and played quite a lot,” Knipe said.

“When our two boys arrived I was certain they would be future tennis champions, but while they liked tennis, they loved basketball.

“As an active dad I love to be involved and play whatever sports or follow whatever interests our kids love, which meant immersing myself in hoops.

“We have been really fortunate to see a lot of NBA and NBL games live… so basketball has continued to become the focal point and a real passion for our family.”

It was only a few months ago when Knipe was presented the opportunity to take this passion to the next level.

Having stepped down as CEO of the tech company he built, StarRez, Knipe saw investing in Melbourne United as the next step in fully engaging with the sport that had come to mean so much to him and his family.

“I’ve absolutely loved my journey with my tech company StarRez, and I am enjoying my role as the Executive Chairman and ambassador, but I have more time and energy for a new venture,” he explained.

“I really wanted to get involved with a new passion that I could involve my family and Melbourne United is the perfect fit.

“The club is such a celebrated brand, with an incredibly storied history of championships and champions.

“We are in a strong position with a great team, coaches and players with a bright future. I am excited to support the club on and off the court and work towards another championship and sustained success on and off the court.”

With NBL27 rapidly approaching, Knipe added that he’s ready for the challenges ahead.

“We are super excited to go on the journey and embrace the uncomfortable, while celebrating the wins as we strive for ultimate success.”

The only way to make sure you’re there to see every second of the action across NBL27 is by becoming a Melbourne United Member. Click here to find out more.
