Melbourne United CEO Nick Truelson has provided an update on Melbourne United’s search for a Head Coach following the departure of club legend, Dean Vickerman.
While the position has been up for grabs for less than a week, Truelson said the club has been inundated with high-caliber candidates from across the globe.
This, combined with an extensive effort leaning on the club’s worldwide network of coaches, means the club is leaving no stone unturned during this search.
With Vickerman’s help; the two-time United Championship winner assisting on the selection committee, the team now looks to narrow its sights on the perfect person to take the reins for NBL27 and beyond.
“We’re super excited about the calibre of candidates that we've had inbound,” Truelson explained.
“It's been fantastic since the announcement, people have been reaching out, wanting to say that they would love to put their candidate forward. The great thing is that it's a real global search and we've already had interest from all corners of the globe.
“Having Dean as a member of the selection committee is great because he knows this club as well as anyone.
“He knows what it’s going to take for a coach to not only lead us on the court, but also live our values and engage with our community off the court.
“Right now we're in that space now of really focussing on what that shortlist looks like with the aim of starting interviews relatively soon, but we're going to take our time because we want to get this decision right so we find the right coach to take us forward.”
Once the club has confirmed its shortlist of candidates, a substantial interview process will take place to ensure any incoming coach will mesh perfectly with the organisation's culture.
Melbourne United’s next coach will have an elite roster, featuring award-winning, Championship players already locked in for NBL27.
