United's captain has been putting together one of the best seasons of his storied career

It’s difficult to truly capture just how valuable Chris Goulding is to Melbourne United.

A constant threat from beyond the arc, Goulding has showcased across his nine seasons with MU the sort of impact he can have on winning.

This has been no different across the first seven rounds of NBL24, leading United to a league-best 9-2 record while registering the league’s highest plus/minus (+80).

Speaking on NBL Overtime, Liam Santamaria touched on just how much of an impact CG43 has on this Melbourne team.

“Chris Goulding, he just has an ability to hit not only a lot of shots, but big shots and tough shots,” he explained.

“He was just an ever-present threat (in Throwdown XXII) and even with a hand in his face, he was ready for the challenge.

“He’s got to be in that mix (for the MVP award). They (United) have got Jo Lual-Acuil Jr who’s working his way into that mix as well but Chris is playing at a very high level.

“You talk about that word; ‘valuable’. We all know how valuable Chris is to that team, year in and year out.”

Despite having played over 400 NBL games, Goulding’s value remains as high as ever, especially as he registers statistics that haven’t been seen within the league since before the 40-minute era.

The sharpshooter is averaging 10.5 three-point attempts per game, an amount that hasn’t been seen in the league in over 20 years, and connecting on four of those attempts per game, more than anyone in NBL24.

Goulding will look to continue this against the Sydney Kings when they make the trip to John Cain Arena for a 4pm blockbuster matchup on Sunday.
