Harry Neilson joins United as NBL27 Development Player

Melbourne United is excited to announce the signing of 19-year-old center, Harry Neilson, as a Development Player for the Hungry Jack’s NBL27 season.

Standing 210cm, Neilson has elite size, which combined with his skill finishing at the rim and strong footwork, makes him a tremendous local prospect.

Eager to learn from United’s collection of stars, Neilson touched on his anticipation for the start of NBL27.

“United is one of the best programs in the country, so to be able to come in and learn from all the coaches and really experienced players is going to be huge for my development,” Neilson said.

“I’ve been a fan of United since I was a kid, and to see what they’ve done for some guys I’m close with like Campbell Blogg, Tom Koppens, Joel Foxwell and Henry Sewell made me certain this was the right decision for me.

“I’m really grateful for the opportunity and super keen to get started.”

Having completed his freshman season playing for Northeastern State University in Division Two of the NCAA in America, Neilson returned to his junior club of Sandringham for the second half of the NBL1 season, where he had put up strong numbers, including a 22 point, 13 rebound performance against Hobart.

Adding to United’s collection of ready-to-contribute Development Players, Head Coach Jacob Chance believes Neilson has the potential to make huge strides in his game across NBL27.

“Harry is a great young Victorian prospect. He’s got really good touch and great feel for a guy with his size,” Chance said. 

“I'm really excited to see what he's gonna look like here at the very early parts of his career. 

“It's gonna be a great challenge for him, stepping into the day-to-day environment of professional sport, but he's certainly got the talent, the skill set, and the character to contribute to our program on a daily basis.”

Neilson joins fellow Melbournians Christian D’Angelo and Jensen Bradtke as Development Players for the NBL27 season.
