How Oduro adds to versatile United roster

With his first import signed for the Hungry Jack’s NBL27 season, Head Coach Jacob Chance believes United’s lineup has the ability to present opponents with a lot of issues.

The 206cm American adds to a United core that already features skilled forwards and bigs such as Joe Ingles (203cm), Sam Waardenburg (208cm) and Luke Travers (198cm).

All possessing the ability to handle the ball, create for others and make the right decisions on the floor, Chance broke down this positional versatility will create problems for opposing teams.

“With a lot of our lineup, we’ve got guys that can play multiple positions and can guard multiple positions,” Chance said.

“I think that lends itself to really productive, successful basketball. When big games come around, it becomes about how you execute under pressure, so it’s really important to have guys that are big and skilled and can make those decisions. 

“It certainly gives you some advantages on both ends of the floor, so I love the versatility aspect of our lineup. 

“The most important thing for me is just having guys who really understand and know the game, and I feel like we have that across the board all throughout our roster. 

“We want to be really difficult to scout and really difficult to prepare for. I can see times where we can play super big with guys like Luke, Joe, Sam and Josh all on the court together, and then there are times where we can go small and play really fast with Shea and our import guard pushing the pace together.”

Having carved out a solid role for himself thanks to his varied skillset, Oduro is excited by the roster United has built around him.

“Versatility is the name of the game,” Oduro explained. 

“Having a bunch of players who can do a bunch out there, it makes the team very hard to guard, and it makes the team really hard to score on.

“I think that's gonna be really good for our team to have so many guys capable of playing different spots.”

Statistically, Oduro has stood out since his college days.

In his final college season, the big-man was an analytics darling, putting up similar advanced stats* to that of current NBA players DaRon Holmes II, Quinten Post and Johni Broome.
