Inaugural all-girls camp a rousing success

Melbourne United held its inaugural all-girls junior basketball camp on Tuesday afternoon, with former Australian Opals Captain Jenna O’Hea leading the event.

Taking place at MSAC, United played host to over 70 junior girls keen to showcase their talent on the basketball court and develop their skills.

Featuring an all-female coaching staff, with the exception of a special appearance from Chris Goulding, O’Hea said the day was a major success.

“There was a lot of talent out there today… Hopefully we may have seen some future Opals out there.

“I was blown away when I heard how many girls wanted to join, so I was super rapt to see them all with big smiles on their faces today.

“It’s so great to be back with juniors, I’ve obviously only recently retired, so to be able to give back to the sport is really nice.”

These sentiments were echoed by Goulding, who emphasised how lucky the girls were to have O’Hea leading the proceedings.

“It’s great to see such strong female participation in our sport. I expressed that to all the girls, just how lucky they are to have Jenna here with her vast knowledge and amazing playing career.”
