Even before he’s ever played a regular season game for Melbourne United, Luke Travers is acutely aware of how big the Throwdown is.
Having gotten a small taste of what the matchup feels like in the preseason, the athletic forward is struggling to contain his excitement ahead of Thursday night’s sold-out season opener.

“I’m obviously super excited for not only my first game but a Throwdown as my first one, it’s very exciting,” he said.
“A lot of the guys have spoken about (the Throwdown rivalry) this week, it’s a big deal and I’m just learning from their experiences which has been super important for not only me but all the new guys.
“We’re super excited and ready to go.”
The contest will feature a blockbuster matchup at the forward position, as Travers goes up against NBL23 MVP finalist Mitch Creek.
Looking at what he expects from the battle, LT believes it will help prepare him for the matchups he will face against talented forwards across the season.
“There’s a lot of good fours (in the league). This is a first little test, I'm looking forward to going up against him,” he said.
“That sort of brings out the best in each player as well, so it’s going to be good fun.”
While Thursday’s contest is sold out, fans can tune in via ESPN via Kayo from home. If you’re wanting to make sure you don’t miss out on a seat moving forward, secure your seat for any United home game here.
