After over six months on the sidelines, Melbourne United forward Jack White can finally see some light at the end of the tunnel.
The athletic 24-year-old hasn’t played since rupturing his Achilles against the Cairns Taipans, 11 games into his stellar first season with United.
Now, the prospect of playing in front of over 10,000 fans at John Cain Arena, something he is yet to experience, has him even more excited to return to the court.
“That would be unbelievable,” White told Melbourne United media.
“It’s a thing I haven’t fully experienced yet. There’s definitely going to be a lot of excitement around Melbourne for us.
“To be able to experience a full crowd and be with our group and just get out there and play again would be amazing.”
The up-and-down rehab process has been a frustrating one for White, who established himself as a defensive force in his 11 games (10 of which were victories) last season.
“In terms of the recovery, it’s been going really well,” he continued.
“There’s been a few little hiccups here and there, but that’s expected after being away from the game for so long.
“Now I’m just looking forward to getting back out with the group, joining in on what’s been a great pre-season, and yeah, I can’t wait to get back out with the fellas.”
White has been on the side-lines for each of United’s two games of the 2021 Hungry Jack’s NBL Blitz and relented that he’s not a very willing spectator at times.
“I’m not a very good spectator so it’s been frustrating, I’m a bit envious of the guys who are able to go out there and play because it’s something I miss so much.”
