With the Denver Nuggets sitting just four wins away from its first ever NBA Championship, former Melbourne United star and current Two-Way player Jack White is taking in every moment of his side’s spectacular playoff run.

Speaking on Friday afternoon to MU Media, White touched on how it feels to be a part of the Nuggets playing group and what it’s been like watching the games from the sidelines.

“It’s special,” he said.

“It’s definitely different, obviously not playing and having to deal with that as a competitor is tough, especially when you see your teammates out there battling for the goal that we set forth at the start of the year, but honestly I’m just proud of this group.

“Since training camp we set these goals: getting the number one seed, having home court advantage and winning a Championship. To be taking steps towards that, for all the puzzle pieces to be coming together at the right time, guys being healthy, it just feels like we’re right where we’re meant to be and that’s a special feeling.”

As a Two-Way player, White is unable to take the court during the playoffs, despite playing 17 games with the Nuggets across the regular season.

The Traralgon native flashed glimpses of what made him one of the NBL’s brightest stars in his NBA minutes, while showcasing his full repertoire with Denver’s G-League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Gold, where he averaged 19.2 points and 9.4 rebounds on 43.8% shooting from deep in 26 games.

Now, White’s entire focus is on helping his teammates however he can to propel the Nuggets towards their ultimate goal of an NBA Championship.

“Right now I’m just trying to be the best teammate I can, supporting the fellas in whatever way I can to get the best possible result for this group,” he continued.

“I’m just trying to be a sponge throughout this experience, soak everything up and be grateful for the moment I’m able to be a part of right now.

“Being a part of this, and especially seeing how our vets are treating this opportunity, makes me realise that this is something that can’t be taken for granted.

“This is something that doesn’t come around easily or very often at all. What we’re doing now is incredibly tough, there’s 30 teams competing and to know we’re going to be one of the last two teams standing is a special achievement in itself.

“But the job’s not finished, there’s still four games left to win, and we’re not going to be satisfied until we’re the last team standing.”

White and the Nuggets will play Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Friday 2 June. They will face either the Boston Celtics or Miami Heat.
