The excitement surrounding the return of Rob Loe for the NBL25 season has been huge following the announcement that the Kiwi big-man would be back in Melbourne United colours last week.
As United’s Nominated Replacement Player in NBL24, Loe helped steer Melbourne to seven wins from his eight appearances, while embedding himself within the culture of the club.
On the court, his elite play didn’t surprise former Tall Blacks teammate Flynn Cameron, however off the court, the young star was amazed to see just how much of an impact Loe had behind the scenes.
“I’m really excited to have him back,” Cameron said.
“I had played with Rob and he just makes things easy for everyone else. He’s a very hard worker, tall defender, can shoot the ball, has high IQ, knows how to pass, he’s a perfect teammate.
“It was pretty crazy as a guy that had come in on short notice and only spent a few months here, when he was set to leave all our leaders like Chris (Goulding) and (Brad) Newley talked about how it felt like he’s been here forever.”
Currently, both Cameron and Loe are applying their trades on two of the best teams in the NZNBL; the Taranaki Airs and Auckland Tuatara respectively.
Their sides have already met once this season in a game where Loe dominated, scoring 22 points, grabbing 14 rebounds and dishing out five assists.
The Tuatara got the victory on that evening, however the game came before Cameron had arrived in Taranaki, and now he is eager to get that win back.
“I can’t wait to play them, they’re one of the teams to beat,” he said.
“It’ll be great to go up against him again, they got us before I had joined the team, so we want to get that one back.”
