The LifeChanger KM’s4KIDS Challenge has just 9 days left and Melbourne United are making their way around the coast to the home of the Red Army – Perth.
Having just passed through Darwin at the start of the week, the team recently ventured into Western Australia and will continue south along the coast before charging through Perth, then on toward South Australia and Tasmania, and finally returning home to Melbourne.
Melbourne United's team of 122 members, fans, sponsors, staff and players are walking, running, cycling and swimming their way around the Australian coastline (virtually) with the goal of making it back to Melbourne by September 15th.
The team's daily activity is tracked via smart devices and tallied up in order to contribute to the team’s total.
With the addition of the staff members from Derrimut 24:7 Gym and SodaStream Australia, Melbourne United’s team has been putting big numbers on the board and are sitting in 8th position overall amongst over 120 teams.
LifeChanger Foundation Founder and CEO Scott Watters had a great deal of praise for United's team.
"The team is doing an incredible job. It doesn't surprise me as they are being pushed by Dean (Vickerman), Vince (Crivelli) and Chris Goulding." Watters said.
"They're clocking up some amazing km's and already in the top 10 when we look at all of the teams."
With the majority of the team being restricted to only 1 hour of exercise each day within a 5km radius of their homes, the team have still managed to cover over 10,000km to date.
Setting the pace with a contribution of over 300km on his own (sitting in 6th place within the MU Team), CEO Vince Crivelli says he has really enjoyed the challenge - for the team but also on a personal level.
“I'm really enjoying being part of this virtual challenge. Everyday it's giving me the motivation to hit the footpaths in my local neighbourhood or jump on the bike.” Crivelli said.
“I am so proud that even during difficult times such as this, that this team, including our wonderful partners, are doing what we can to support others and make a difference."
"Not to mention the pysical benefits, given the group has just surpassed 10,000kms with 9 days left. It's an incredible achievement."
It’s not too late to sign up and participate if people at home want to help get the team over the line by September 15th.
