Melbourne United is excited to announce the First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria (the Assembly) will join as game day partner for our game in the Hungry Jack’s NBL Indigenous Round on Monday 31st May.
The Assembly is the democratically elected voice for Aboriginal people in the Treaty process with the State of Victoria.
Recently, the Assembly established the historic Yoo-rrook Justice Commission in partnership with the Victoria Government. The Commission is a truth-telling process with the strength of a Royal Commission that will help to tell the true history of Victoria and lead to better outcomes for Aboriginal people.
Treaty offers an opportunity for Aboriginal people in Victoria to take on new powers and form new institutions that will promote Aboriginal decision-making and self-determination – leading to better outcomes for Aboriginal people.
Co-Chair of the First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria Aunty Geraldine Stewart said: “For centuries sport has brought people from different cultures and countries together. We’re thrilled to partner with Melbourne United as we at the First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria work towards a more united Victoria through Treaty.”
Melbourne United will look to boost the awareness for The Assembly via various methods during the club’s game against the Taipans. Although the game was originally to be played in Melbourne, due to the recent situation in Victoria the game is to now be played in Sydney at Qudos Bank Arena.
Melbourne United CEO Vince Crivelli said: “It is such an honour to be able to take part in the Indigenous Round each season, but to now have the First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria join as our game day partner for this game, makes it even more special.”
Co-Chair of the First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria Marcus Stewart said: “As we head down the path of Treaty and Truth in Victoria, we ask you to walk with us - the same way you walk alongside your favourite NBL team, Melbourne United.”

Melbourne United play the Cairns Taipans at Qudos Bank Arena at 7:30pm AEST Monday 31st May, as part of the Hungry Jack’s 2021 NBL Indigenous Round. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN, SBS On Demand, Sky Sports and Twitch.
