Melbourne United proud to partner with Melbourne Spectres

Melbourne United is excited to welcome the Melbourne Spectres as an official community partner for the remainder of NBL26, and all of the NBL27 season.

First founded in Sydney in 2001, Spectres Australia is Australia’s only fully dedicated Pride Basketball community, with teams based across the nation.

Through this partnership, Melbourne United is committed to working with the Melbourne Spectres to promote inclusive, respectful and safe basketball environments across the state, while also strengthening LGBTQIA+ visibility, allyship and participation.

Melbourne United CEO Nick Truelson touched on the impact he believes this partnership could have moving forward.

“It is our purpose at Melbourne United to use the power of basketball to inspire, entertain and enrich people’s lives, and it is our hope that this partnership helps achieve that,” Truelson said.

“We want to be an inclusive club, and want basketball to be an inclusive sport, so partnering with the Spectres, who as a whole have had that as their goal for the past 25 years is something very exciting.

“With our Pride Game right around the corner, this is an amazing time to celebrate the diversity and inclusivity of our great sport.”

These sentiments were echoed by Connor Wilson, President, Melbourne Spectres Pride Basketball.

“This partnership between Melbourne Spectres Pride Basketball and Melbourne United reflects a shared commitment to making basketball a place where everyone belongs,” they said.

“By connecting an elite professional club with a long-standing LGBTQIA+ community organisation, we’re strengthening the purpose of NBL Pride Rounds, creating visible and meaningful pathways between grassroots and professional basketball, and reinforcing the values of respect, inclusion, and community leadership.

“Together, we’re showing how the game can positively shape culture both on and off the court.”

Melbourne United will celebrate the club’s Pride Game on 7 February from 8pm against former star player, Isaac Humphries, and the Adelaide 36ers.
