Melbourne United to host free Multicultural Festival

Melbourne United is thrilled to announce The Melbourne United Multicultural Festival, supported by the City of Melbourne.
Taking place on March 20 from 11am before United’s matchup against the Adelaide 36ers, the defending champions will look to showcase the diversity and multinational cultures of Melbourne outside John Cain Arena.
Featuring live performances, entertainment and activities from around the globe, the free festival is the perfect place to fully embrace The Multicultural Game.
Melbourne United CEO Nick Truelson voiced his excitement ahead of the event, adding how pivotal it is for a diverse club like United to represent the multicultural city in which they play.
“We are excited to be working with the City of Melbourne on our upcoming Multicultural Festival which aligns perfectly with our Multicultural themed game on Sunday the 20th of March at John Cain Arena.
“We see it as part of our role as a community orientated club to promote our great city, and with Melbourne being one of the most multicultural cities in the world, we can’t wait to see the Multicultural Festival come to life in just over a week's time.”
These sentiments were echoed by Community and Engagement Manager Nicola Parkinson.
“Our club prioritises multiculturalism and inclusion, and this festival celebrates the true sense of community,” she continued.
“We are looking forward to supporting Cultural Diversity Week and connecting the Melbourne United community through culture.”
The Multicultural Game was first launched last season, but with disruptions from the pandemic the game was delayed, and eventually relocated to be played in Sydney as part of the Semi Final series.
To embrace the theme of the game, the team wore a bespoke jersey that integrated the flags of the countries that were represented within the Melbourne United Basketball Club’s players, coaches and staff.
The team will don a new Multicultural Game jerseys for the matchup with the 36ers, their third meeting with Adelaide this season.
With the teams having split their first two meetings of the season, there will be a lot on the line when they match up for the final time of the regular season.
While the festival is completely free, tickets are on sale for the game itself and are available here. Three and five game membership packages also remain available here.
