For the second consecutive postseason, Melbourne United will wear its Multicultural Jerseys in all home games across the Hungry Jack’s NBL Finals.
A decision made by the playing group, the jerseys are emblazoned with the flags of United players and staff, and celebrates the many cultures within the club.
This season the uniform will feature the flags of Samoa, South Sudan, Nigeria, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Togo, USA and Armenia. The jerseys will also house a motif of the flag of each player's home country inside the number on the back of the uniform.
Last season, United sported their Multicultural Jerseys for their pair of ‘home games’ in their Semi-Finals series win over the South East Melbourne Phoenix, before wearing the uniforms again for all three games of their Grand Final sweep of the Perth Wildcats.
Speaking ahead of their Game One matchup with the Tasmania JackJumpers, United import and NBL21 Champion Yudai Baba spoke about his pride playing in the jerseys.
“It’s pretty cool as a team and as an organisation. I’m definitely looking forward to wearing these jerseys again.
“There aren’t many teams that help represent the countries that their players come from.
“It’s a big memory for me to wear the multicultural jersey and win a championship last season, so I’m hoping that the same uniform means the same result will come.
