Mitsubishi Match Recap: Hungry Jack’s NBL26 - Round 12, Game 2 v Sydney Kings

Melbourne United have fallen short in their second overtime game of Round 12, going down at home against the Sydney Kings.

The home side got off to the perfect start, stringing together 10 consecutive stops and taking a 10-0 lead.

The Kings were able to force their way back into the game, even taking the lead, however a strong finish to the period put Melbourne up 25-24 to close the quarter.

The second was another close term, with each team finding success in different areas of the court.

United attacked from the inside, scoring in and around the paint while the Kings fired away from downtown, cashing in on 11 three-point makes.

Despite this, Melbourne took control late, going ahead 50-45 at the major break.

Coming out of half time, it was the visitors that looked to have found momentum, scoring nine unanswered points before a Finn Delany dunk got United going.

Milton Doyle looked to take over from that point, scoring on three straight possessions to bring Melbourne right back into the contest.

While Sydney still held a one-point lead with time running out on the quarter, Fabijan Krslovic, who played one of his best games for the club in the absence of an injured Jesse Edwards, hustled on the glass to tip a rebound in, giving United a 70-69 advantage.

In a low-scoring fourth quarter, Doyle again was United’s most aggressive player, scoring seven straight points, including hitting Melbourne’s first three-pointer of the game, to put the home side ahead by five points.

A Krslovic layup made this lead seven, however the Kings kept coming, closing the gap quickly.

Despite another Doyle make through contact, Sydney were able to tie the game in the closing second and send the contest into overtime.

As was the case on Friday evening, United fell short in the extra period, ultimately going down 86-92.

Melbourne United will next hit the court on Thursday evening back at home against the Illawarra Hawks from 7:30pm.
