Melbourne United have collected another victory, thrashing the Cairns Taipans by 35-points inside John Cain Arena.
Jesse Edwards got the huge Grassroots Game crowd up on their feet for United’s first points, raising up for an emphatic alley-oop slam.
He would bring his total up to seven points before the end of the period to lead all scorers, closely followed by fellow import Tyson Walker and returning captain Chris Goulding.
It didn’t take Goulding long to get re-acclimated to the fans inside John Cain Arena, getting in the paint for an and-one finish before splashing his first triple of the season.
This helped the home side open up a 27-15 lead to close the first period.
Melbourne continued this run to start the second, scoring the first 15 points of the quarter to extend their advantage out to 27 points.
They were able to do this with a strong combined effort from the entire team, with the likes of Walker and Edwards continuing their hot starts, while Finn Delany, Fabijan Krslovic and Tom Wilson also hit the scoreboard.
Tanner Krebs almost provided a spectacular finish to the half, banking in a shot beyond half-court, however it was deemed to come just after the buzzer, leaving United up 48-25.
While the game slowed down coming out of the major break, Melbourne remained in control, limiting the Taipans to just 16 points in the term.
Krslovic and Malith Machar each got in on the action from deep, cashing their looks from three-point range and extending the lead to 70-41 heading into the final 10 minutes of play.
Looking to put the icing on the cake, Edwards provided another highlight to start the fourth, going upstairs for another alley-oop dunk.
Delany followed this up with an easy fast-break layup, before Goulding added his second three to bring his total up to 16 points in 18 minutes of play.
Development Players Tom Koppens and Campbell Blogg each logged solid minutes to close the game, with the former scoring a career-high nine points.
Ultimately, United finished as 35-point victors, extending their winning streak to five games.
Melbourne will next head on the road for a matchup with the Brisbane Bullets on Friday 17 October from 7:30pm.
The game will be streamed live on ESPN.
