NBL22 Debrief - Jack White

When it comes to basketball injuries, they don’t get much worse than a torn achilles.

A blow that can often drastically alter, or even end careers, it was up in the air what United young-gun Jack White would be like when he was able to return to the court after curreing the injury in NBL21.

In an unexpected turn of events, he came back stronger than ever.

Motivated by the time he missed, White shined on the court, quickly recapturing his starting role before setting career-high marks in scoring and rebounding.

Looking at what it was like to get back on the floor after close to eight months away from the game, White reflected on his own NBL22 campaign.

“That support was something that I felt throughout the whole rehab process and I couldn’t be more thankful for that because it was definitely one of the hardest things I’ve ever been through.

“Coming back and being able to have a bit more of a normal year definitely helped, and being in front of our fans was something that I enjoyed very much.

“It was something that I definitely missed, coming back to it after being away for so long just makes me even more grateful that I’m able to do this for a living.”

With the end of United’s season still fresh in his mind, White says while the early exit has been difficult to come to terms with, he won’t let it cloud his memories of a special season.

“It felt like it went by really quick and finished really quick.

“Obviously our goal was not to be finished at this stage of the year… but overall it was a great season. Personally for me I had a lot of fun, I love this group, everyone involved with the club was so amazing to work with this year, especially coming off the injury I was just enjoying being able to play once again.

“It obviously hurts how it ended, but that’s not going to take away from the good times, great wins and great memories along the way.”

With NBA Summer League on the horizon, the ultimate goal remains the same for White; to help propel United to another Championship in NBL23.

“(Losing to Tasmania), It’s just fuel to the fire.

“I’m confident that we’re going to put ourselves in a successful position to have a run at (a championship) next year with the culture of the club and everyone that we bring in. I’m confident we’ll get another great squad coming back for NBL23.”
