New-look lineup exciting for young star

Much has been made of Melbourne United’s roster construction heading into NBL24, with some calling their core one of the strongest group of local talent in recent memory.

One person that can’t wait to see what the team can produce is United’s Next Star, Ariel Hukporti, who is eagerly awaiting his opportunity to play with his new and returning teammates.

Hukporti told The Extra Pass podcast that due to his lack of social media some of the signings caught him by surprise, but once he saw how the roster was shaping up how excited he was for the upcoming season.

“Because I don’t Instagram anymore I had issues seeing who we signed,” he chuckled.

“They told me before we posted it that we had signed Travers and I was like ‘Oh damn, Travers from Perth? Nice, we putting a team together.’

“Then I heard Jo (Lual-Acuil Jr) was coming back, Delly (Matthew Dellavedova) was coming back… the team was coming together with more pieces.

“I’m excited definitely, when I see the roster, I’m excited to play with those guys, especially with Jo, I never really got to be with Jo on the court.

“We like it because we can move and we’re athletic enough that we can slide with guards and switch and our guards are strong enough to keep up with bigs when you look at Shili (Shea Ili).”
