Newley, Frankston keep on rolling

Written by Melbourne United Media

Brad Newley has continued to lead from the front as his Frankston Blues picked up a pair of victories at the weekend, cementing their spot on top of the NBL1 South ladder.

Newley averaged 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals in wins against Ringwood and Casey, lifting the Blues’ record to a league-best 8-2 after 10 games. They will next face the third placed Knox Raiders on Saturday night.

Also taking home a big victory in the South Conference were Campbell Blogg and David Barlow, who helped Sandringham get over Zac Triplett and Keilor.

Blogg finished with 21 points, sinking five three pointers, while Barlow added six points off the bench. Triplett led Keilor in scoring, tallying 21 points and two rebounds in the loss.

Rounding out the South was Cal Dalton, who kept his hot form going, scoring 19 points in an Eltham W.

Moving to the Central Conference, it was a difficult weekend for Malith Machar and the Forestville Eagles, who lost both games of their double header.

Overseas, Jo Lual-Acuil Jr picked up another W for Dynamo in the Lebanese Basketball League, finishing with 27 points, eight rebounds and two assists. His side now has a 2-0 series advantage in their best-of-five Semi Final series over Beirut.
