Table of Plenty Coaches' Round Table: Round 4

Welcome to the Table of Plenty Coach’s Round Table! This weekly article will provide you with some behind-the-scenes insight from our team of coaches regarding our performance from the previous round, thanks to Table of Plenty, the Official Snack Partner of Melbourne United.
‍
‍

Adelaide 36ers - Assistant Coach, Rhys Carter

“We got off to a great start and really committed to our help defence principles. Getting out in transition really ignited our offence off the back of our great defence in the first three quarters. Our ball movement and ability to find open shooters really helped keep the score ticking up.

“Adelaide are a great offensive team, and made a big run at us. It was really pleasing to see our poise and composure in a pressure situation. Pleasing to get a tough win on the road.”

United’s bench outscored the 36ers’ 30-10 in last Wednesday’s matchup, their highest NBL27 tally since the season opener and the most in a win thus far this season.

United haven’t lost when three of their players score over 15 points in a game, as they did against the 36ers and the Phoenix.
‍

South East Melbourne Phoenix - Video Coordinator and Development Coach, Seb Lees

“After a poor start where turnovers really hurt us, we made great strides in our defensive identity against the Phoenix. We still have plenty of room to grow, but we’re pleased with the overall connectivity and physicality of the group in that performance.”

United put together their most prolific scoring half of NBL27 in Throwdown 34, scoring 59 points, 10 more than their previous high, in the 15 point comeback win.

Melbourne have won both games this season when scoring 50 or more points in a half, the other was the first half against the 36ers in the previous game.

Head Coach Jacob Chance’s Final Word

Adelaide 36ers

“That building has been notorious for being difficult to play in.

“I loved our intent and urgency for the first three quarters. We put ourselves in a really commanding position. Our guys’ intent, urgency, and approach in shoot around, film, practice after the Cairns game, all those things add up and I think you saw the outcome of that in the first three quarters.

“For us to make some big plays when we needed to and to handle the 36ers fight back and come with a couple of loose balls, make a couple big shots, was great.”‍

South East Melbourne Phoenix

“We were disappointed with our start and we knew there was going to be a response from South East.

“Once we dried up what their threes looked and felt like, it made a big difference in the game. Once we took care of that and got out in transition, I thought we had a huge advantage. 31 fast breaks points on one box score is a really high number.

“I’ve loved in the last two games how we’ve responded off of tough shots and raced down the other end to kill the opposition's momentum.”

United will next take the court as the home team inside John Cain Arena in our Grassroots Game this Sunday, October 18th at 5:00pm.

There are less than1,000 tickets left so get yours before they run out via AXS
