Melbourne United star signing Luke Travers has already showcased how his new role can unlock another level to his game.
After playing primarily as a ‘Small Forward’ in Perth, Head Coach Dean Vickerman’s decision to move him to the four spot has so far allowed the 200cm dynamo to wreak havoc on both ends of the floor.
Speaking to The Pick and Roll, Travers outlined what the transition has been like and how it poses new challenges for both himself and the opposition.
“I think it’s a whole other ball game really,” Travers told Michael Houben.
“I’ll be at the 4 and defending ball screen coverages a bit differently to what I’ve been doing, like I feel like I’ve always guarded the guard coming off the screens but now I’m guarding the bigs off the screen - it’ll be a lot different but it’s going to be really good for me.
“On this team my role isn’t to score 20 points. We have CG, Ian, Delly, Ili, big Jo as well, a lot of scorers, so I’m going to do all those little things and the results will take care of itself.”
Travers is yet to lose with United, having played in Melbourne’s two preseason wins so far, where he’s averaged 13.5 points, 9 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 3.5 blocks and 2 steals per game.
He will be hoping to build on his perfect record tonight when MU faces off against the Brisbane Bullets at 7:30pm in their first game of the NBL Blitz.
All games will be streamed live and free via Kayo Freebies.
