Travers takeover inevitable

Round 4 of the NBL24 season was another strong one for United star Luke Travers.

The 200cm forward was instrumental in both of Melbourne’s victories, averaging 15.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3 steals per game against the Hawks and Breakers.

Using his size, speed and poise, Travers has shown glimpses of a near unstoppable play style, scoring 10 of his 15 points in the second half on Friday before scoring 15 of his 16 points in the first half on Sunday.

Speaking post-game, Head Coach Dean Vickerman believes if he put together those sort of performances for all four quarters, the sky's the limit for the NBA Draft pick.

“There’s still three or four moments in every game saying ‘I need you to be more aggressive there, I need you to go dunk that one”, he said.

“If we keep sending those kinds of messages to him we’ll continue to see high-level performances from him.

“I thought the second half in Wollongong he really took it over, (same as) the first half tonight. Once we combine those kinds of halves he’s going to be trouble.”

Across his first seven games with Melbourne United, Travers is averaging career-highs in points, rebounds, steals and blocks per night.

His next opportunity will come on Friday evening in a top-of-the-table clash with the JackJumpers in Tasmania before returning home to face the Illawarra Hawks on Sunday at 2pm.

Make sure you lock in your ticket so you don’t miss a second of the action come Sunday, which will also see the club celebrate the 30-year anniversary of the Melbourne Tigers inaugural championship victory.
