Triplett learning from the best

Melbourne United young gun Zac Triplett is not taking his surroundings for granted.

Signing with the defending champions after his lone season with the Portland Pilots in the NCAA, the shooter out of Victoria is making the most of his first season with United.

Speaking on SEN Breakfast, Triplett spoke about his decision to sign with Melbourne’s premier NBL team, which was heavily influenced by the culture and experience within the club.

“It’s been great at United so far. There’s obviously a great culture and great people around the club, which is one of the main reasons why I signed here.

“I’m learning from the great veterans that we have in (David) Barlow, (Brad) Newley, (Chris Goulding) CG, and (Matthew Dellavedova) Delly, and the wealth of knowledge that they have.”

A lights-out perimeter shooter in his own right, Triplett eyes NBA marksmen like Klay Thompson and Duncan Robinson when looking to develop his game.

While watching premier shooters has helped, having Chris Goulding, one of Australia’s best ever three-point shooters at practice with him every day has been huge for the 21-year-old.

“CG is one of the great shooters of all time in the NBL and throughout Australia, so he’s been a great help for me.

“Just seeing how professional he is on and off the court… he’s been massive for me.”

Getting up anywhere between 500-1,000 shots every day, Zac is committed to not only continuing his growth as a player, but staying ready to contribute to a team aiming for back-to-back championships.

“Ultimately, I just want to learn from our main guys and continue to get better, but winning a championship is our main goal.”

Look for Zac when Melbourne United wear their NBL22 Indigenous Jersey in a pair of home games against the Brisbane Bullets on Saturday 5 March, and then again on Thursday 10 March against the Perth Wildcats.
