Over the past 12 months, we have had the privilege of visiting over 100 schools and engaging with close to 15,000 students as part of our Play United and GAMETIME by Kmart programs.
It’s our purpose at Melbourne United to inspire, entertain and enrich people’s lives through the power of basketball, and that is exactly what the club is able to achieve through these activities.
Across Victoria, our players and staff have worked with students to help showcase the game of basketball, while also working in classrooms to break down our club values.
At a recent visit to Malvern Central Primary School, some of the students spoke about how much they enjoyed our program.
"GameTime was awesome, I can't believe I got to play against Dash Daniels in a real game,” said Freddie.
"I loved the basketball clinic and getting our own singlet to wear for the day,” added Hughie.
These sentiments were echoed by the teachers, with Silverton Primary School teacher Kelly touching on the impact the program can have.
“The Gametime program at Silverton primary school was a once in a lifetime opportunity for our students to get up close and personal and watch and play alongside some of the best basketballers in Australia,” she said.
The energy, hype, enthusiasm and willingness to participate was at an all-time high throughout the clinics and during the matches.
“Students walked away from school that day with huge smiles on their faces and a day that they will never forget when they got to shoot 2 points over an NBL star. It was a very special day with many memories made.”
