Leading into the opening game of the Hungry Jack’s NBL27 season, Melbourne United will look to extend its Round 1 winning streak out to half a decade’s worth of games.
Dating back to NBL23, United have won six consecutive Round 1 games, including a win over their opponent this Saturday, the Adelaide 36ers, in NBL24.
While each team obviously comes into Saturday night’s contest with significantly different looking lineups, Melbourne will hope to replicate their success from three seasons ago.
Looking ahead to the matchup, Head Coach Jacob Chance touched on his excitement to get back in front of the United faithful inside John Cain Arena, while outlining the challenge Adelaide presents as an opponent.
“I’ve been really pleased with how we’ve progressed through the preseason and I know the entire group cannot wait to step out onto the court inside JCA for Round 1,” he said.
“There’s an atmosphere inside that arena that’s unlike anything else in the league. When the fans are locked in for a big game like this, they provide an energy that takes things to another level.
“We’re going against a really good team that was right there last season in terms of winning a Championship, and that’s where we want to be.
“I’m excited to see our guys compete. It’s a great first test against an Adelaide team that has a lot of weapons and a lot of talent.”
